Seiko RCE2560 is an industrial-grade piezoelectric inkjet printhead developed by the printhead division of Seiko Instruments (SII). It made its first appearance at drupa 2024, positioned as a 600dpi high-resolution head aimed primarily at textile printing and corrugated cardboard packaging, while also being suitable for a range of substrates including glass, metal, and ceramics.

Structurally, the printhead uses four staggered rows of nozzles for a total of 2560 nozzles, with an effective print width of 108.3mm, achieving high output density within a compact footprint. The jetting frequency reaches up to 40kHz, and combined with the 600dpi resolution, single-pass print speeds can reach approximately 100 meters per minute. At a throw distance of 3mm, the jetting velocity is around 7 meters per second. Drop volume supports multi-level greyscale, with a standard range of 9 to 20 picolitres, extendable to around 30 picolitres in certain configurations.

On the technical side, the standout feature of the RCE2560 is the integration of true recirculation, isolated channel technology, and a next-generation integrated waveform controller. Ink circulates continuously at high speed directly behind the nozzles, which reduces nozzle clogging and air bubbles while ensuring stable ink ejection and consistent print quality during long, continuous production runs.

In terms of ink compatibility, it is an upgrade from the previous-generation RC1536 (360dpi). The core piezoelectric elements and electrode process are carried over, but speed has been significantly improved for water-based inks, opening the door to new applications such as packaging and textiles. Beyond water-based inks, it can also jet UV-curable, oil-based, and solvent-based inks, with a compatible viscosity range of roughly 5 to 20cP. It should be noted that the printhead itself does not include heating or temperature-control modules; temperature management is recommended to be handled by the machine’s ink supply system.
