Seiko 508GS UV / Solvent Printhead 12PL
The Seiko 508GS oil-based version is an industrial-grade piezoelectric greyscale inkjet printhead from Seiko of Japan, specifically adapted for oil-based ink applications. It integrates a built-in damper assembly and nozzle guard, offering refined craftsmanship and stable operation, making it a well-established choice in the wide-format printing, coding & marking, and industrial printing sectors.
Thanks to its excellent ink versatility, the entire 508GS series is engineered at the hardware level to support oil-based, solvent, UV-curable, and water-based inks, making oil-based applications one of this printhead’s native strengths. In actual supply, the oil-based and solvent/UV versions generally fall under the same original part number system (IRH2533U-2410). When purchasing, users should confirm the corresponding version based on their equipment’s ink delivery system and the manufacturer’s label, to avoid confusion with the water-based-specific version (IRH2533U-1420, blue label).
In terms of technical performance, the printhead features 508 active nozzles arranged in two rows, with a nozzle pitch of approximately 141.1 microns (about 1/180 inch) and an effective print width of around 72 mm. Its native resolution is 180 dpi, with a maximum output of up to 1440 dpi, and it supports multi-level greyscale control, allowing flexible switching between fine gradients and high-speed output. Drops are based on a 12-picoliter unit, covering a range of approximately 12 to 84 picoliters, and can be combined for multi-drop ejection. The typical firing frequency is 18 kHz and its multiples, reaching up to 28 kHz in single-drop binary mode. The nozzle plate features a non-wetting treatment that effectively prevents ink buildup, ensuring stable long-term ink ejection.
The head measures approximately 121 × 28.2 × 123.6 mm and weighs less than 300 grams, making it easy to install and integrate. It provides datum points in all three X, Y, and Z directions and supports downward, horizontal, and vertical mounting orientations. Ink priming can be performed via positive or negative pressure, and an individual heater element can be attached to meet the temperature control and flow requirements of oil-based inks under different conditions.
In application, with its strong compatibility with oil-based inks and stable ink ejection, the 508GS oil-based version is widely used in coding and marking (such as batch numbers, production dates, barcodes, and QR codes printed on cartons and packaging surfaces), industrial labeling, cardboard and corrugated paper printing, and identification printing in industries such as pharmaceuticals. It maintains stable and reliable output quality throughout industrial-grade continuous operation.
