UV Coating Liquid Function, Principles, and Selection Guide
In the UV printing world, UV coating liquid (also known as a UV primer or treatment agent) is an absolute must have. It is used as a pre treatment step, especially when you are printing on non absorbent surfaces like acrylic, metal, glass, or ceramic tiles

1. What does it do and how does it work?
The main job of a UV coating is to act as a “bridge” between the material and the ink. When you wipe or spray it onto a surface, it creates a transition layer that helps the UV ink “bite” into the material. This significantly boosts adhesion and prevents the ink from peeling or scratching off
2. Matching the right coating to your material
There are hundreds of different coatings on the market because every material is different. Even if two items look the same, their chemical makeup might require a specific formula. For example, “plastic” isn’t just one thing ,it could be PP, PC, or Nylon, and each one needs its own dedicated coating. Pro tip: Always identify your exact material before choosing a liquid.
3. Common Application Methods
There are two main ways to apply these coatings, and it’s important to know they are not interchangeable:

- Manual Wiping: You simply wipe the liquid evenly onto the surface by hand. It usually evaporates in 1–2 minutes, and then you’re ready to print. This is perfect for small batches or simple projects.
- UV Spraying (Inkjet): The printer’s own nozzles spray the coating onto the material, which is then cured by UV light before the actual pattern is printed. This is highly automated and best for high volume production.
Note: These two methods use different chemical formulas. Never mix them up, or you’ll risk a poor finish or even a failed print.
