In the BN-20 this motor provides the up-and-down movement used by the wiper during head cleaning and by the tool mechanism. When it fails or becomes weak, the wiper may not rise to clean the head, cleanings leave ink smeared on the nozzle plate, the printer reports a motor or wiper error during start-up or maintenance, or the cutting tool no longer raises and lowers properly. A clicking or buzzing sound during initialisation is another common hint. Replacing the motor brings the maintenance and cutting functions back to normal.
