The Ricoh Gen5 MH5420 is a genuine Japanese-made industrial piezo printhead engineered for demanding production printing. This version comes with a compact 248mm cable assembly — the signal cable itself measures 148mm, while the full 248mm covers the head body, cable, and connectors — and is identified by the Ricoh part numbers N221414J and N221414T, which are interchangeable references for the same head. The shorter cable makes it a natural fit for compact printer builds where space around the carriage is limited.
Built to handle UV-curable, solvent, and water-based inks, the MH5420 carries 1,280 nozzles and prints at a native 600 dpi. In this short-cable form it is typically run as a two-colour head, with variable grayscale dropping from 7 to 35 picoliters (7pl native) for fine, high-definition detail. A jetting frequency of up to 60 kHz keeps throughput high, while an integrated heater and thermistor hold ink viscosity steady for consistent jetting across long runs.
Durability is a hallmark of the Gen5 line. The stainless-steel body, nickel-alloy internals, and coated stainless-steel nozzle plate stand up to the corrosive chemistry of UV inks, helping to prevent clogging and extend working life — every nozzle is rated for up to 100 billion firing cycles.
