Ricoh MH3820 Printhead Overview
The Ricoh MH3820 is a new industrial piezoelectric inkjet printhead from Ricoh Printing Systems America, introduced in 2026. It combines a dual-row nozzle structure with a 108.2 mm print height and can print two colours from a single printhead.
It is designed for production systems that need reliable, high-speed inkjet performance – such as product coding, industrial marking, packaging, label replacement and selected 3D printing applications.

Key features
- Dual-row nozzle design – two rows of 320 nozzles (640 in total) for up to two colours from one head.
- Wide print height – a 108.2 mm swath for product identification, packaging and other production-line printing.
- High-speed printing – up to 60 m/min at 300 dpi according to Ricoh’s technical brochure.
- High-gap printing – droplet velocity above 10 m/s allows printing gaps greater than 10 mm, useful on uneven products.
- Stainless steel nozzle plate – built for industrial use and long-term reliability.
- Integrated heating – four internal heaters help keep the temperature uniform for stable jetting.
Resolution, printing speed, printing gap and ink compatibility depend on the operating mode, ink formulation, printhead configuration and control system. Please confirm your application requirements before integration.
Ink compatibility
Ricoh lists the following ink categories for the MH3820, with a recommended viscosity of 10–14 mPa·s:
- Oil-based inks
- UV-curable inks
- Solvent-based inks
- Other suitable fluids, subject to compatibility verification
Ricoh also identifies compatibility with inks and fluids developed for the MH24, MH26 and MH28xx printhead series. A compatible ink category does not guarantee every formulation will work – evaluate ink chemistry, viscosity, surface tension, temperature and drive waveform before use.
Applications
- Product coding and batch identification
- Industrial marking
- Primary and secondary packaging
- Direct product identification
- Label replacement
- OEM industrial printing systems
- Selected 3D printing applications
Electrical compatibility and integration
Ricoh identifies electrical compatibility with the MH52, MH53 and MH54 printhead series; an IO adapter board may be required. Electrical compatibility does not mean the heads are direct mechanical or functional replacements for one another. Before replacing an existing head or building the MH3820 into a new machine, check:
- Printhead driver and controller compatibility
- Cable connections and pin assignments
- Drive voltage and waveform requirements
- Firmware and software support
- Mechanical dimensions and mounting arrangements
- Ink supply and circulation requirements
Accessories and configuration
Depending on the application, you may also need an IO adapter board, a hose barb kit, cables of the right length, the optional ink circulation manifold and a compatible driver and control system. The exact accessories supplied with the head should be confirmed before ordering.
Availability
The MH3820 is not in stock at EYCS yet. Stock, order acceptance and lead times vary by purchasing channel and region. Message Ewan on WhatsApp with your application and existing printhead model – we’ll confirm availability, configuration and pricing as soon as supply is available.
