Seiko 508GS 12PL Water-Based Printhead (IRH2533U-1420)

The Seiko 508GS water-based version is an industrial-grade piezoelectric greyscale inkjet printhead manufactured by Seiko of Japan, with the original part number IRH2533U-1420, commonly referred to in the industry as the “blue label” head. Optimized specifically for aqueous inks, it features a built-in damper assembly and a nozzle guard, delivering refined build quality and stable operation. It has become a well-established choice in wide-format and photo-quality printing equipment.

In terms of technical performance, the printhead is equipped with 508 active nozzles and a native resolution of 180 npi (180 dpi), with an effective print width of approximately 72 mm. It supports up to 8 levels of greyscale output and can also be switched to binary mode as needed, allowing a flexible balance between fine gradients and high-speed printing. The drop volume ranges from roughly 12 to 84 picoliters, based on a 12-picoliter unit that can be combined for multi-drop ejection. Its typical firing frequency is 18 kHz and its multiples, while the non-wetting nozzle plate effectively prevents ink buildup and ensures stable long-term ejection.

Thanks to its isolated channel design, all nozzles of the 508GS can fire simultaneously, achieving higher jetting frequencies and more consistent drop control. The head supports multiple mounting orientations, including horizontal and vertical installation, making it easy to integrate into equipment of various structures.

It is worth noting that although the water-based version (IRH2533U-1420, blue label) and the UV/solvent version (IRH2533U-2410, green label) both belong to the 508GS series and share a similar hardware structure, they are specifically adapted for different ink types at the factory. Therefore, when purchasing or replacing, it is essential to confirm the part number and label color, and avoid mixing them with solvent or UV versions, as doing so can easily cause clogging or abnormal ink ejection.

The head is suitable for a range of wide-format printers running primarily on water-based inks (including brands such as Infiniti). With its stable ink ejection and smooth greyscale transitions, it is widely used in photo and graphic output, indoor advertising displays, textile-related printing, and other scenarios that demand high color accuracy and image quality.
