The Seiko SPT-1020 12PL is a piezoelectric drop-on-demand industrial printhead manufactured by Seiko Instruments of Japan. It belongs to the same SPT-1020 series as the 35PL version, differing in its smaller drop size, and is aimed primarily at solvent, eco-solvent, and UV grand-format printing applications that demand higher image precision. Like the 35PL, it uses two SPT510 nozzle arrays combined in a staggered configuration; while maintaining the same swathe width and speed, its smaller drops deliver finer imaging and smoother tonal gradations.
In terms of performance, the printhead features 1,020 active nozzles, a nozzle density of 185 npi, a print swathe width of 71.9 mm (approximately 2.8 inches), a native resolution of 360 dpi, and a maximum resolution of up to 720 dpi, with two firing frequencies of 6.46 kHz and 8.29 kHz. Its key distinction is a drop size of 12 picoliters, noticeably smaller than the 35PL version, which gives it an advantage in fine patterns, gradients, and high-definition output, making it well suited to applications with higher requirements for detail and color smoothness.
