Seiko SPT-1020 12PL Printhead

The Seiko SPT-1020 12PL is a piezoelectric drop-on-demand industrial printhead manufactured by Seiko Instruments of Japan. It belongs to the same SPT-1020 series as the 35PL version, differing in its smaller drop size, and is aimed primarily at solvent, eco-solvent, and UV grand-format printing applications that demand higher image precision. Like the 35PL, it uses two SPT510 nozzle arrays combined in a staggered configuration; while maintaining the same swathe width and speed, its smaller drops deliver finer imaging and smoother tonal gradations.

In terms of performance, the printhead features 1,020 active nozzles, a nozzle density of 185 npi, a print swathe width of 71.9 mm (approximately 2.8 inches), a native resolution of 360 dpi, and a maximum resolution of up to 720 dpi, with two firing frequencies of 6.46 kHz and 8.29 kHz. Its key distinction is a drop size of 12 picoliters, noticeably smaller than the 35PL version, which gives it an advantage in fine patterns, gradients, and high-definition output, making it well suited to applications with higher requirements for detail and color smoothness.

In terms of compatibility, the SPT-1020 12PL is largely the same as the 35PL and works with a wide range of domestic and imported grand-format machines, including the Icontek series (M5, M7, and models such as the TW-3306 and TW-3308), the Infiniti Challenger series (FY-3208GS, FY-5008GS, FY-UV2508S, and others), and Phaeton equipment.

A key point when purchasing: the 12PL and 35PL look almost identical, but their drop sizes differ and they are not interchangeable, so be sure to confirm the picoliter rating against your equipment and output needs before ordering—choose the 12PL for high-precision image quality, or the 35PL for higher ink output and speed.
